Punjab : Over 71L wheat grain arrived in mandis, 94% purchased, only 22.7% lifted
Punjab recorded over 71.58 lakh tonnes of wheat arrivals, with procurement exceeding 94%. Despite strong buying, only 22.77% has been lifted, indicating slow logistics. Improved arrivals followed eased norms, with total procurement reaching 67.34 lakh tonnes so far.
Bathinda: Wheat arrivals and procurement crossed 10 lakh metric tonnes (MT) for the fourth consecutive day in Punjab’s mandis on Wednesday, with over 94% of the crop purchased by evening. However, lifting remained sluggish, with only 22.77% of the procured grain cleared from markets.
Following untimely rain, wheat arrivals began on a subdued note. However, after the Centre eased procurement norms, arrivals and procurement picked up pace.
Against arrivals of 10,09,438 MT on Wednesday, procurement stood at 10,37,403 MT. Total procurement has reached 67,34,981 MT out of arrivals of 71,58,218 MT till April 22 evening. Of this, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has bought 1,16,561 MT, just 1.73% of the total. Purchases during the day exceeded arrivals, while unsold wheat stood at 4,23,236 MT by the evening of April 22.
Of the total procured grain, 15,33,877 MT had been lifted from mandis by Wednesday evening, including 4,25,816 MT during the day. Overall, 122 lakh MT of wheat is expected to arrive in the mandis during the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27.
