September biodiesel exports higher compared to last year: USDA

In September, the U.S. exported 67,975.3 metric tons of biodiesel, mainly to Canada, totaling $99.95 million. Imports reached 88,055.9 metric tons, with Canada, Germany, and Spain as key suppliers. Cumulative 2024 exports hit 530,423.2 metric tons, valued at $743.16 million, down from 2023 levels, highlighting shifts in U.S. biodiesel trade and evolving supply-demand dynamics.

In September, the U.S. exported 67,975.3 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends containing B30 or greater, according to data from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service released on November 5. U.S. biodiesel imports for the month totaled 88,055.9 metric tons, reported Biodiesel Magazine.

While exports of 67,975.3 metric tons in September marked a decrease from the 81,957.1 metric tons sent abroad in August, they were higher than the 57,739.5 metric tons exported in September 2023.

As per the media report, the U.S. shipped biodiesel to approximately six countries in September. Canada was by far the largest importer, receiving 62,392.9 metric tons, followed by Peru with 5,026.8 metric tons and Singapore with 361.1 metric tons.

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports in September stood at $99.95 million, a decrease from $110.81 million in August and $102.9 million in September 2023.

For the first nine months of 2024, total U.S. biodiesel exports reached 530,423.2 metric tons, valued at $743.16 million. This represents a decline from the 699,887.7 metric tons exported in the same period of 2023, which were valued at $1.22 billion.

On the import side, the U.S. brought in 88,055.9 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends in September, an increase from the 80,543.6 metric tons imported in August, but a significant drop from the 183,451.7 metric tons imported in September 2023.

Biodiesel imports came from around eight countries, with Canada being the largest supplier, delivering 34,950.3 metric tons. Germany followed with 24,917.1 metric tons, and Spain was third with 18,019 metric tons.
