Suzuki strengthens biogas initiative in Pakistan

Pak Suzuki Motor Corporation Limited (Pak Suzuki) and the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOU) to collaborate on biogas research and development. The partnership focuses on biogas technology, organic fertilizers, and evaluating the project’s commercial feasibility. The initiative aims to contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic development and carbon neutrality goals. This collaboration aligns with Suzuki’s growing focus on biogas in South Asia, following the recent launch of a biogas facility in India to reduce carbon emissions.

Through a memorandum of agreement (MOU), Pak Suzuki Motor Corporation Limited (Pak Suzuki) and the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) are set to cooperate in conducting research and development in biogas. 

Specifically, the Japanese automotive arm in Pakistan’s MOU with the university is concerned with biogas technology as well as organic fertilizers. The two entities will likewise look into the commercial feasibility of the project. Additionally, the MOU facilitates resource and information exchanges between Pak Suzuki and UAF. 

According to Suzuki, the grand goal of the project is the socio-economic development of Pakistan. At the same time, the MOU is likewise seeking to achieve carbon neutrality through biogas in the country.  Photo from Suzuki Motor Corporation

To note, the Japanese company’s push for biogas in South Asia has ramped up in 2024. Only a few months ago, the firm opened a biogas production facility in Manesar, India. The said facility, per Suzuki’s estimates, will help reduce 190 tons of carbon dioxide per year. 

Other biogas-related activities of Suzuki in the South Asian region include the establishment of another production plant in Gujarat, India, with the cooperation of the Indian National Dairy Development Board and the Banas Dairy company.
