UNICA: Ethanol sales in Brazil continue to trend up in early August

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, reported ethanol production reached 2.29 billion liters, with corn ethanol production up by 14.19%. Since the harvest season began in April, ethanol production totaled 18 billion liters, with hydrous ethanol up 17.21% and corn ethanol up 24.75%. Ethanol sales also rose, increasing by 12.66% during the period.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released data showing sugarcane processing was down during the first half of August. The production of corn ethanol continued to grow, and overall ethanol sales were up for the two-week period.

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 43.83 million tons of sugarcane during the first half of August, down 8.57% when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 377.44 million tons, up from the 360.06 million metric tons processed during the same period of last year. 

Mills in the region produced 2.29 billion liters (604.95 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of August. Production included 1.47 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 3.02% when compared to the same period of 2023, and 828.52 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 10.22%. Corn ethanol accounted for 322.05 million liters, or 14% of total production, up 14.19% when compared to the same period of last year. 

Total ethanol production since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 18 billion liters, up 7.26%. Production included 11.43 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 17.21%, and 6.57 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 6.56%. Corn ethanol production accounted for 2.78 billion liters of production, up 24.75% when compared to the same period of 2023.

Mills in the south-central region sold 1.49 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of August, up 12.66% when compared to the same period of last year. Domestic sales included 897.91 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 19.27%, and 483.25 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 0.9%. 

Total sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 13.12 billion liters, up 19.91%. sales included 8.51 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 39.04%, and 4.61 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 4.37%.
