UP sugar mills clear 94.86% cane dues; 102 private mills complete 100% payment
Uttar Pradesh sugar mills have paid 94.86% of sugarcane dues for 2025-26, with 102 private mills clearing 100%. Cooperative mills paid ₹2,820 crore and state corporation mills ₹543.51 crore, while farmer income increased ₹40,720 per hectare.
Lucknow: Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh have paid more than 94.86 per cent of the sugarcane price to farmers for the 2025-26 crushing season, with 102 private mills completing 100 per cent payment of cane dues, according to the state government, The Times of India reported.
As many as 23 cooperative sugar mills have paid Rs 2,820 crore to farmers, while the three mills operated by the State Sugar Corporation have made payments of Rs 543.51 crore. The state government said private sugar mills have also completed 100 per cent payment to sugarcane farmers.
A state government spokesperson said Uttar Pradesh has so far transferred Rs 3.25 lakh crore in sugarcane price payments directly into farmers’ accounts. The state continues to account for the highest sugarcane price payments in the country, the spokesperson said.
During the 2025-26 crushing season, more than 94.86 per cent of the sugarcane price has already been paid, while 102 mills have cleared their entire cane payment obligations.
The government said the measures taken by the sugar industry and Cane Development Department have contributed to farmer welfare and improvements in sugar and ethanol production. The average income of sugarcane farmers in the state has increased by Rs 40,720 per hectare, according to the department.
Uttar Pradesh also continues to rank first nationally in sugarcane, molasses and ethanol production, the government said.
The Cane Development Department further said sugar mills in the state crushed a record 9,220 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the last nine years. This was 3,052 lakh tonnes higher than the 6,168 lakh tonnes crushed during the preceding nine-year period.
