USDA: US ethanol exports top 141 million gallons in August
In August, the U.S. exported 141.19 million gallons of ethanol and 1.12 million metric tons of distillers grains, both showing year-over-year increases. Ethanol exports rose from 135.99 million gallons in July and 100.29 million gallons last August. Canada was the top ethanol destination, while South Korea led distillers grains exports. Total exports for the year reached $2.8 billion for ethanol and $2.17 billion for distillers grains.
The U.S. exported 141.19 million gallons of ethanol and 1.12 million metric tons of distillers grains during August, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Oct. 8. Exports of both products were up when compared to the previous year.
The 141.19 million gallons of ethanol exported in August was up when compared to both the 135.99 million gallons exported the previous month and the 100.29 million gallons exported in August of last year.
The U.S. exported ethanol to more than 40 countries in August. Canada was the top destination for U.S. ethanol exports during the month at 56.99 million gallons, followed by the U.K. at 16.86 million gallons and the Netherlands at 10.82 million gallons.
The value of U.S. ethanol exports reached $320.29 million in August, down from $323.84 million in July, but up from $279.3 million in August 2023.
Total U.S. ethanol exports for the first eight months of this year reached nearly 1.24 billion gallons at a value of $2.8 billion, compared to 896.74 million gallons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $2.51 billion.
The 1.12 million metric tons of distillers grains exported in August was up when compared to both the 1.09 million tons exported in July and the 944,850 metric tons exported in August 2023.
The U.S. exported distillers grains to approximately 40 countries in August. South Korea was the top destination for U.S. distillers grains exports at 166,862 metric tons, followed by Mexico at 163,086 metric tons and Turkey at 117,334 metric tons.
The value of U.S. distillers grains exports reached $285.57 million in August, up from both $266.42 million the previous month and $271.16 million in August of last year.
Total U.S. distillers grains exports for the first eight months of 2024 reached 8.09 million metric tons at a value of $2.17 billion, compared to 7.02 million metric tons exported during the same period of 2023 at a value of $2.24 billion.
