Uttar Pradesh: Area under cane cultivation declines in Budaun

Sugarcane cultivation in Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, has declined by 13% this year, with 18,577 hectares under cultivation compared to 21,461 hectares last year. Farmers attribute this to delayed payments from sugar mills. While some mills have cleared dues and resumed operations, farmers demand timely payments within the mandated 14-day period to encourage sugarcane farming.

Budaun, Uttar Pradesh: There has been a decline in the area under sugarcane cultivation in the district this year. Farmers have cultivated sugarcane on only 18,577 hectares of land this year, which is 13% less compared to the previous year, reported Amar Ujala.

Last year, sugarcane was cultivated on 21,461 hectares of land in the district. The district sugarcane officer claims that Bisauli’s Yadu sugar mill has cleared all the pending payments from the previous year. Shekhupur sugar mill has also started operations.

Farmers are unwilling to grow sugarcane unless they get timely payments. Farmers Mohan Singh and Kalyan Singh said that sugar mills delay payments. They questioned the benefit of providing sugarcane to such mills.

Farmers are demanding strictness in ensuring timely payments from the authorities within the stipulated 14-day period, according to government guidelines.
