Vietnam rolls out E10 biofuel nationwide
Vietnam has launched nationwide sales of E10 gasoline, requiring all unleaded fuel to contain 10% ethanol from June 1. The move replaces traditional gasoline, supports emissions reduction and renewable energy goals, while authorities say domestic ethanol production and imports are sufficient to meet demand.
HANOI: Vietnam launched nationwide sales of E10 biofuel gasoline on Monday (June 1), marking a major shift in the country’s fuel market as ethanol-blended fuel replaces traditional mineral gasoline, local media VnExpress reported.
Under a circular issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, all unleaded gasoline must be upgraded to E10, a fuel blend containing 10 per cent ethanol, while E5 RON92 gasoline with a five-per cent ethanol ratio will remain available until the end of 2030, according to the report.
Major fuel distributors, including Vietnam National Petroleum Group and PetroVietnam Oil Corporation, have completed the market transition, following pilot E10 deployments across multiple localities starting in August 2025.
The ministry said that the move is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions, boost renewable energy adoption and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, adding that current domestic ethanol production and imports are sufficient to meet nationwide market demand, the report added.
