Wheat procurement in Punjab surpasses 91% target set by FCI
BATHINDA: The wheat procurement in Punjab has surpassed 91% of the target fixed by the Food Corporation of India for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2023-24.
The FCI had fixed a target of 132 Lakh Metric Tonne (LMT) for Punjab, out of which
120 LMT had been procured by Friday.
Earlier, when excessive rains had lashed the region in late March and early April, a considerable part of the standing wheat crop had lodged, and it was suspected that the wheat production and thus the procurement could suffer immensely.
However, the production and procurement is likely to be on the expected lines or may miss the target by a small margin.
With the arrival of 1.29 LMT wheat crop in grain markets of Punjab on Friday, the total arrival in the state reached 120.16 LMT, out of which 119.79 LMT or 99.70% has already been procured.
Out of the total procured grains 76.94 LMT has been lifted from purchase centres, which is 64.23% of the total procurement.
The FCI had fixed a target of procuring 341,5 LMT from across the country and as per the dashboard 222.89 LMT had been procured till April 30.
