UNICA: Ethanol Production, Sales Up In Early October

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced that both sugarcane processing and ethanol production were up during the first half of October. Ethanol sales were also up when compared to the same period of last year. 

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 32.77 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of October, up 17.64 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the start of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 459.48 million metric tons, up 14.47 percent when compared to the same period of 2022.

Ethanol production reached 1.77 billion liters (467.58 million gallons) during the first half of October, up 27.82 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Production included 1.04 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 54.12 percent, and 729.94 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 2.76 percent. Corn ethanol accounted for 16 percent of total production during the two-week period, at 174.74 million liters, up 61.51 percent when compared to the same period of 2022. 

Total ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season was at 25.21 billion liters, up 10 percent when compared to the same period of last year. Production included 14.86 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 10 percent, and 10.35 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 11.54 percent. Corn ethanol accounted for 3.27 billion liters of production, up 45.5 percent. 

Mills in the region sold 1.26 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of October, up 4.63 percent when compared to the same period of 2022. Sales included 825.72 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 13.27 percent, and 438.05 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 8.52 percent. 

Domestic sales during the first half of October included 782.01 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 15.95 percent, and 435.96 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 4.49 percent. 

Total ethanol sales so far this season reached 16.59 billion liters, up 2.87 percent when compared to the same period of 2022. Sales included 9.67 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 1.49 percent, and 6.92 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 4.86 percent.
