‘Step up wheat procurement in Lucknow div’
Lucknow: According to official data, 8,800 farmers in Lucknow division have registered with state govt for
procurement of wheat at minimum support price fixed at Rs 2,275 per quintal.
Divisional commissioner Roshan Jacon on Thursday said 8,830 farmers in Unnao, Sitapur, Lakhimpur-Kheri, Rae Bareli, and Hardoi districts, which fall under the Lucknow division, have registered so far for procurement of wheat harvest.
To facilitate smooth procurement, over 700 purchasing centres have been set up in the division. Of these, 45 are in Lucknow, 91 in Unnao, 114 in Rae Bareli, 145 in Hardoi, 165 in Sitapur and 156 in Lakhimpur-Kheri. “Wheat procurement work process will be completed by food department, PCF, UPPCU, UPSS, mandi committee and Food Corporation of India in the division,” Jacob informed.
The commissioner blamed lukewarm response of farmers on officials for not doing enough to encourage them to enrol with govt and directed immediate and proactive steps in that direction.
