Nashik: The state agriculture department has projected kharif cultivation on 6.28 lakh hectares in Nashik district for the upcoming kharif season, an increase of 2,500 hectares as compared to last year.
The major kharif crops in the district are maize, cotton, bajra, moong, urad, soybean, jowar, and bajra.
In the previous year, the state agriculture department had projected sowing on 6.43 lakh hectares, but due to inadequate rainfall, the actual sowing took place on only 6.26 lakh hectares.

The agriculture officials said that they have projected the kharif sowing areas for the coming season to ensure availability of adequate seeds and fertilizers as per requirement. The IMD has projected a good monsoon, which has led to expectations of a favourable kharif season this year.

Among the kharif crops, maize contributes the largest area under cultivation in the district, accounting for 35% of the total kharif sowing acreage. This year, the sowing of maize has been projected on 2.43 lakh hectares as compared to 2.48 lakh hectares last year. Soybean is the second major crop in the district after maize, with a projected sowing area of 1.22 lakh hectares for the kharif season. Last year, actual kharif sowing of soybean in the district was 2.23 lakh hectares. Paddy is the third major kharif crop in the district, with a projected plantation area of 94,000 hectares in this year.
