Egypt calls for stable grain supplies from Ukraine and Russia
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed the need for stable grain supplies from Ukraine and Russia, as Egypt relies heavily on imports. Russian wheat shipments reached nearly 10.6 million tonnes in 2025/26, but September shipments plunged to 7,400 tonnes.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed the importance of stable grain supplies from Ukraine and Russia during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Bloomberg News reported this, citing Russia’s Interfax news agency.
According to El-Sisi, Egypt imports significant volumes of grain from both countries, making the stability of these supplies extremely important for the country.
The Egyptian president also called for joint efforts to stabilize the situation and ensure uninterrupted grain supplies.
Ukraine and Russia remain important grain suppliers to the Egyptian market, while stable Black Sea shipments are particularly important for a country that relies heavily on wheat imports.
According to the Russian Grain Union, Egypt received almost 10.6 mln tons of Russian wheat in 2025/26, up 4.2% from the previous season.
At the same time, Russian shipments to Egypt fell sharply at the beginning of September 2026. During September 1–10, shipments totaled just 7.4 thsd tons, compared with 402 thsd tons in the same period last year.
