The U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration on May 28 announced the renewal of its Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee. The agency is also seeking nominations for committee membership.
REEEAC is an advisory committee that provides the Department of Commerce with advice from the private sector on the development and administration of programs and policies to expand the export competitiveness of U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency products and services.
The committee’s work on renewable energy is to focus on technologies, equipment, and services to generate electricity, produce heat, and power vehicles from renewable sources such as biomass, solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal and hydrogen. For the purposes of the REEEAC, covered goods and services do not include vehicles, feedstocks for biofuels, or energy efficiency as it relates to consumer goods or buildings. However, non-fossil fuels that reduce carbon consumption, such as liquid biofuels and wood pellets, are included.
The committee consists of up to 30 members appointed by the Secretary of Commerce. Members are to include those who represent U.S. companies, U.S. trade associations, U.S. private sector organizations, and civil society groups with activities focused on the export competitiveness of U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency goods and services. The committee currently includes representatives from Lignetics, a wood pellet producer, and the Renewable Fuels Association, a trade association for America’s ethanol industry.
The ITA in April opened a solicitation for committee members to serve during the REEEAC’s upcoming term. Nominations were originally due May 31. The ITA has extended that deadline, with nominations now due June 14.
