Kuruburu condemns fuel price hike
Kuruburu Shanthakumar, chief of the State Sugarcane Farmers’ Association, criticized the Karnataka government’s decision to raise petrol and diesel prices, foreseeing adverse effects on farmers. He condemned CM Siddaramaiah’s inconsistency on fuel rate criticisms and accused the state of neglecting farmer incentives. Shanthakumar announced a pivotal meeting of national and state farmers’ leaders in Shivamogga on June 24 to strengthen the South Indian farmers’ movement against rising challenges.
Mysuru: The State Sugarcane Farmers’ Association chief Kuruburu Shanthakumar stated that state govt’s decision to increase the diesel and petrol rates will affect the farming community.
He pointed out the inconsistency in CM Siddaramaiah’s stance, who had previously denounced the Union government for increasing fuel rates but has now done the same to fund guarantee schemes.
Shanthakumar accused the state govt of becoming antifarmer by discontinuing incentives for milk supplied by farmers and the Kisan Samman amount. He emphasised that the govt has increased the cost of all essential services, adding to the farmers’ burden. To address these issues and bolster the farmers’ movement in South India, Shanthakumar told reporters that a meeting of national and state farmers’ leaders will be held in Shivamogga on June 24. “In this meeting, we will discuss strengthening the farmers’ movement in South India,” he said. The gathering aims to unite farmers and develop strategies to protect their interests in the face of growing challenges, he added. TNN
