Japan offers to buy 111,294 tonnes of food wheat via tender

TOKYO, Jan 30 (Reuters) – Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture plans to purchase 111,294 tonnes of food-quality wheat from the U.S., Canada, and Australia in a tender closing on Thursday. The breakdown includes 20,426 tonnes of Western White, 9,680 tonnes of Dark Northern Spring, and 26,180 tonnes of Hard Red Winter from the U.S.; 32,653 tonnes of Western Red Spring from Canada; and 22,355 tonnes of Standard White from Australia.

TOKYO, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Japan's Ministry of Agriculture seeks to buy 111,294 tonnes of food-quality wheat from the United States, Canada and Australia in a regular tender that will close late on Thursday.

Japan, the world's sixth-biggest wheat importer, keeps a tight grip on
imports of the country's second-most important staple after rice, and buys the
majority of the grain for milling via tenders typically issued thrice a month.
