UNICA: Ethanol Sales Trend Higher In Early June

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, reported increased sugarcane processing and ethanol production for the first half of June. Mills in the south-central region processed 49 million metric tons of sugarcane, up 20.48% from last year. Ethanol production reached 2.25 billion liters, with hydrous ethanol up 29.56% and anhydrous ethanol up 4.85%. Total sales were 1.44 billion liters, up 17.87%, with domestic hydrous ethanol sales up 44.53%.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released data showing that sugarcane processing, ethanol production and ethanol sales were up during the first half of June when compared to the same period of 2023.

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 49 million metric tons of sugarcane during the two-week period, up 20.48% when compared to the same period of last year. Total sugarcane processing since the start of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 189.46 million metric tons, up 13.25% when compared to the same period of 2023.

Mills in the region produced 2.25 billion liters (594.39 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of June. Production included 1.32 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 29.56%, and 926.83 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 4.85%. Corn ethanol accounted for 306.34 million liters, or 14% of total production during the period, up 18.56% when compared to the same period of 2023.

Total ethanol production since the beginning of the current harvest period reached 8.71 billion liters, up 12.24%. Production included 5.64 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 25.91%, and 3.07 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 6.43%. Corn ethanol production reached 1.51 billion liters, up 26.6% when compared to the same period of the previous harvest. 

Mills in the region sold 1.44 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of June, up 17.87% when compared to the same period of last year. Domestic sales included 904.95 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 44.53%, and 498.27 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 4.77%. 

Total sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 7.25 billion liters, up 26.21%. sales included 4.78 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 48.34%, and 2.47 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 2.08%.
