EIA: Ethanol Production Up 5%, Stocks Down 2%, Exports Down 62%

US fuel ethanol production reached a near-record high, increasing by 5% to 1.106 million barrels per day the week ending July 12. Stocks fell by 2% to 23.16 million barrels, while exports dropped by 62% to 70,000 barrels per day. This increase in production, combined with decreased exports and stable imports, may impact fuel prices and demand in the US market.

U.S. fuel ethanol production expanded by nearly 5% the week ending July 12, reaching a near-record high, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on July 17. Ethanol stocks fell by 2% and exports were down nearly 62%. 

Fuel ethanol production averaged 1.106 million barrels per day the week ending July 12, up 52,000 barrels per day when compared to the 1.054 million barrels per day of production reported for the previous week, and only 2,000 barrels per day below the current production record of 1.108 million barrels per day set in December 2017. When compared the same week of last year, production for the week ending July 12 was up 36,000 barrels per day. 

Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol fell to 23.16 million barrels the week ending July 12, down 443,000 barrels when compared to the 23.603 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending July 12 were down 6,000 barrels. 

Exports of fuel ethanol fell to 70,000 barrels per day the week ending July 12, down 112,000 barrels per day when compared to the 182,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, exports for the week ending July 12 were down 16,000 barrels per day. There were no fuel ethanol imports reported for the week ending July 12.
