Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu reviewed the progress of the 1 MW green hydrogen plant currently under construction in Nalagarh, Solan district.
As per news report by The Tribune, during a meeting with senior officers from the Energy Department, Sukhu instructed them to accelerate the construction and ensure that the project tender is awarded promptly. He set a deadline for the plant’s completion by the end of 2025.
Sukhu emphasized the state government’s commitment to transforming Himachal into a green energy hub by March 31, 2026. He stated, “The green hydrogen plant will be a key milestone in achieving this ambitious goal. With the growing demand for green hydrogen across various industries, it provides a clean alternative to fossil fuels, especially in transportation, manufacturing, and energy storage.”
He added, “The project will significantly contribute to de-carbonizing industries and energy systems, thereby aiding in environmental conservation. Producing green hydrogen with zero carbon emissions will help reduce pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulate matter, improving air quality and protecting ecosystems.”
Sukhu also highlighted the government’s focus on environmental conservation and its ongoing initiatives for a cleaner, greener state. He mentioned that he had recently laid the foundation stone for a green hydrogen mobility station pilot project in Chamba, estimated to cost Rs 14 crore. Additionally, a 32 MW solar power plant has been established in Pekhubela, Una district, with two more plants expected to be operational in the next six months. Sukhu directed the department to enhance efforts in harnessing solar energy throughout the state.
