Pb procurement fills 47% of India’s wheat basket

Bathinda: The addition of 2 lakh metric tones on Tuesday took Punjab’s wheat crop arrival figure to 115.7 lakh MT, of which 115.3 lakh MT or 99.59% has been procured and 64 LMT or 55.55% lifted, leaving behind a little more than 44%.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) targets procuring 132 LMT wheat from Punjab and 341.5 LMT from across the country. By Tuesday, it had procured 115 LMT wheat from Puniab and 222.8 LMT from the entire country against last year’s total of
187.9 LMT wheat, to which Punjab had contributed 96.4 LMT or 51.3%. Till April 30, the procurement from Punjab was 106.5 LMT out of 222.8 LMT, which comes to 47.8%.
After the completion of procurement in the temporary mandis of Barnala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Ludhiana, Mansa, Patiala, Ropar, Sangrur, SAS Nagar, Moga, and Jalandhar districts, 169 of these centres were closed from
Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Punjab recorded 30 incidents of crop-residue burning, taking the season’s count to 286, much less than the previous two years’ figures. The May 30
figures on Punjab Remote Sensing Centre dashboard were 594 in 2021 and 1,887 in 2022, while the season’s counts by this time were 1,993 in 2021 and 7,292 in 2022.
In all, 17 cases were in Bathinda, 10 in Mansa, and one each in Barnala, Jalandhar, and Patiala.
