CCS Singapore partners with Weichai, Nanyang Technological University, and Pinnacle Marine for B100 biodiesel testing in shipping

The China Classification Society’s Singapore branch, Weichai Singapore, Nanyang Technological University’s MESD, and Pinnacle Marine are partnering to conduct Singapore’s first long-term B100 biodiesel trial on a vessel. A 1,000-hour test will assess B100’s emissions and performance, providing crucial data to support the shipping industry’s decarbonization efforts and establish best practices for biodiesel use. Key figures, including Zhou Naixiang and Cao Zhongming, attended the agreement signing, highlighting this initiative’s significance in advancing sustainable maritime operations.

The China Classification Society (CCS) Singapore Branch has formed a research cooperation agreement with Weichai Singapore Pte. Ltd., the Marine Energy and Sustainability Research Department (MESD) at Nanyang Technological University, and Pinnacle Marine (PINNACLE) to develop and test B100 biodiesel for vessels in Singapore, reported Safety4Sea

This collaborative project will conduct a continuous operation test lasting 1,000 hours in the port waters of Singapore. The goal is to assess the performance of B100 biodiesel and collect emission data, aiding the shipping industry’s pursuit of net-zero emissions.

As Singapore’s first long-term trial of B100 biodiesel on a ship, this initiative will yield essential performance and emissions data for extended engine use and help establish best practices for onboard storage, operation, and refueling.

Through this partnership, CCS aims to enhance its technical services within the biodiesel sector and contribute to the overarching objective of lowering emissions in maritime activities.

The agreement signing ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Zhou Naixiang, Deputy Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Governor, and Cao Zhongming, the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore.

Representatives from the involved organizations, including Chen Zili (CCS), Xue Hua (Weichai), Yuan Jinhui (MESD), and Lin Feng (PINNACLE), officially signed the agreement.
