Madhya Pradesh Govt should announce Rs 2,700 as MSP for wheat: Kamal Nath

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has urged the BJP-led state government to fulfill its election promise of providing ₹2,700 per quintal as the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat. With the wheat procurement season approaching, he emphasized that rising production costs make this price necessary for farmers. He also criticized the government for failing to meet its previous promise of ₹3,100 per quintal for paddy, warning that farmers may perceive the BJP as anti-farmer if the commitment is not honored.

Bhopal: Former chief minister Kamal Nath on Thursday reminded the BJP state govt of its election promise to pay Rs 2,700 per quintal as MSP (minimum support price) when acquiring wheat from farmers.Taking to X, @OfficeOfKNath said, “The wheat crop is about to be ready in the state and the process of wheat procurement will start in the coming few weeks. I want to remind the BJP govt that they had made an election promise to give a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,700 per quintal to farmers for wheat.”He said, “Therefore, the minimum support price of wheat should be immediately declared at Rs 2,700 per quintal and the govt should purchase wheat at the weighing centres at this rate only.

In the last few years, the cost of crop production for farmers has been continuously increasing, in such a situation, even Rs 2,700 per quintal is not a very high MSP.”Kamal Nath alleged that farmers of Madhya Pradesh have already seen that the BJP govt did not give the MSP of Rs 3,100 for paddy as promised. “If Rs 2,700 per quintal is not given for wheat now, then it will become very clear to the farmers that BJP is not only anti-farmer but also determined on ruining farmers,” he said.
