Uttarakhand : 17 decisions approved by Dhami Cabinet; MSP declared for Sugarcane

The Uttarakhand Cabinet, led by CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved 17 key proposals, including a new excise policy, MSP for sugarcane at Rs 375 per quintal, and a new course on state history. Polytechnic diplomas will now be equivalent to class 12. Other approvals include a Rs 200 crore Trout fishing scheme and industrial development in Udham Singh Nagar.
Dehradun, 3 Mar: Several important issues and proposals were discussed during a Cabinet Meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. In all, 17 important proposals were approved, covering policy decisions related to education, employment, agriculture, industry, and the personnel department, apart from the much-awaited new excise policy.
After the meeting, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli shared information regarding the decisions taken by the Cabinet with the media. Key approvals included the introduction of a new excise policy for the state and the declaration of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for sugarcane.
Bagoli shared that the cabinet approved the introduction of a new course, ‘Hamari Virasat Evam Vibhutiyan’, which will cover the history related to the Uttarakhand statehood movement and the state’s cultural heritage, to be taught from classes 6 to 8. In an important decision related to the education department is that the three-year polytechnic diploma after class 10 will now be considered equivalent to class 12. This means, that the polytechnic passed out students will now be eligible to join university courses.
In another very important decision, the cabinet also fixed the MSP for sugarcane farmers at Rs 375 per quintal for the early variety and Rs 365 per quintal for the normal variety. However, this needs to be reminded here that no change has been made in the total support price.
The cabinet also approved service rules for the posts of DIG and SP Prisons. The cabinet also approved new rules under the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
The cabinet approved a system of relaxation in promotions for employees, allowing for up to 50 percent relaxation. The Cabinet also approved amendments to the service rules for Group-A and Group-B were approved.
In another decision, the cabinet approved the Chief Minister’s Single Women Self-Employment Scheme which will provide assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh for women.
A Unified Pension System (UPS) was approved in Uttarakhand, with interested employees eligible to take advantage of the scheme. It may be recalled that the Union Government has also approved a unified pension scheme in view of the agitation and demand of bringing back the old pension scheme.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal to increase the number of posts in the Stamp and Registration Department from 213 to 240. A Rs 200 crore scheme to promote Trout fishing was also approved, providing input assistance to fish farmers for five years.
In yet another significant decision, the cabinet decided that 1,354 acres of land at Parag Farm in Udham Singh Nagar will be allocated to SIDCUL for industrial development. It may be recalled that the Uttarakhand Government has plans to develop an industrial township in the Parag Farm area.
This project is aimed at boosting economic growth and creating employment opportunities in the region.
The cabinet also approved an integrated Self-Help Scheme under which financial assistance of Rs 2.3 crore was approved for women’s self-help groups. The cabinet also approved revision of Safety and Marginal Fees related to mining in the Gaula, Kosi, and Dabka rivers.
A new excise policy was implemented in the state, introducing new arrangements in the liquor business.
