Sugar prices in Pakistan have surged to Rs 170 per kg in major cities during Ramadan 2025, with the highest prices recorded in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Karachi. The Sindh government chose not to set a sugarcane support price for FY2024-25, citing an agreement with the IMF, potentially impacting future price stability.
Sugar prices in Pakistan have surged to as high as (Pakistani rupee) Rs 170 per kg in major cities during Ramadan 2025, according to a report by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The PBS report highlights significant price variations for sugar across different cities.
As per the report, the highest sugar price of Rs170 per kg is being recorded in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Karachi. In cities such as Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, and Khuzdar, the price is Rs165 per kg, while in Quetta, it stands at Rs169 per kg.
In other cities like Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Bannu, the price is up to Rs160 per kg. Sukkur recorded the lowest price of Rs158 per kg.
Earlier, it was reported that the Sindh government chose not to fix the sugarcane support price for FY2024-25. Although the Sindh government had been setting the support price for sugarcane in previous years, a recent agreement with the IMF led to the decision not to set a price this year.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Sindh government, where the cabinet opted not to fix the sugarcane price at the government level. However, the agriculture department has indicated that it will revisit the issue with the Sindh cabinet if any province sets a sugarcane support price.
