Finance Department officials told to prepare revival plans for three sugar units


Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has directed the Finance Department to draft a ₹472 crore revival package for three cooperative sugar factories in Belagavi and Vijayapura. The funds will support dues clearance, transport costs, and cogeneration plant setup. He urged coordination with the National Cooperative Development Corporation, highlighting the state’s commitment to reviving sugar units and supporting cane growers.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed Finance Department officials to prepare plans for providing financial support to Krishna Cooperative Sugar Factory in Athani taluk in Belagavi, Nandi Cooperative Sugar Factory in Babaleshwar, and Bhimashankar Cooperative Sugar Factory in Indi taluk of Vijayapura district.
While the Krishna Cooperative Sugar Factory will require ₹192 crore, the Nandi Cooperative Sugar Factory needs ₹150 crore. The Bheemashankar Cooperative Sugar factory needs ₹130 crore. The total amount required by the three factories would be ₹472 crore.
Minister for Industries M.B. Patil, Sugar and Agriculture Marketing Minister Shivanand S. Patil, and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil attended a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to revive the sugar factories.
The Krishna Cooperative Sugar Factory and the Nandi Cooperative Sugar Factory have plans to set up cogeneration plants for producing 27 MW and 37 MW, respectively, Mr. M.B. Patil said.
It is said that both sugar factories needed financial support for releasing pending dues to sugarcane growers, for paying transport cost of sugarcane, setting up power equipment, among others.
The Chief Minister told officials of the Finance Department to prepare a revival package by holding discussions with the National Cooperative Development Corporation officials.
