Maize, sunflower being sold much below MSP: Bhupinder Hooda- Haryana

Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda accused the BJP of failing farmers, stating maize and sunflower crops are selling well below the MSP. In markets like Kurukshetra and Karnal, maize fetches ₹1,000–₹1,800 versus ₹2,400 MSP, and sunflower gets ₹6,400 against ₹7,280. He alleged government apathy and arbitrary pricing by procurement agencies, causing significant farmer losses.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said that BJP’s claims of giving MSP on 24 crops have been exposed again. He alleged that farmers’ maize and sunflower were being sold at rates much lower than MSP and the ruling BJP was sitting with its eyes closed.
He said the arrival of both crops was in full swing in the markets of Kurukshetra, Ambala, Karnal, Kaithal and surrounding areas, but instead of Rs 2,400 per quintal MSP, farmers were getting only Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,400 for maize. The rate of completely dried crop is only Rs 1,800 at the most.
Similarly, on paper, the price of sunflower is Rs 7,280, but farmers are barely getting a price of Rs 6,400. Agencies are buying the crop at arbitrary rates and farmers are incurring a loss of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per quintal, he alleged.
