UGA expects the corn crop to grow in Ukraine

Ukraine’s grain and oilseed harvest for MY 2025/26 is projected at 83 million tons, driven by strong corn output. The Ukrainian Grain Association expects 29.26 million tons of corn, with 24 million tons for export. Wheat is forecast at 22.5 million tons, with 16.5 million tons for export. Barley output remains steady at 5 million tons, boosted by renewed Chinese demand.
The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) predicts that the harvest of grain and oilseed crops in the MY 2025/2026 will be about 83 million tons. The growth in volumes is primarily associated with corn. This was announced by UGA President Mykola Gorbachev during a meeting of the UGA Grain Club.
“The crops are in good condition. Two weeks ago I was in Slavuta, Khmelnytskyi region, and last week in Chernivtsi. There are no risks at the moment. The fact that there is no sum of vegetative temperatures and the harvest is delayed is striking — this is already clear. If we usually observe pollination in August, and some companies have already started harvesting corn in September, then this year, I think, at best, it will be harvested in late September or early October,” Gorbachev noted.
According to him, the UGA is optimistic about the potential yield of corn – in case of favorable weather, 29.26 million tons of the crop are expected, of which about 24 million tons can be exported.
As for wheat, the forecast remains at the level of the previous season – 22.5 million tons with a possible export of 16.5 million tons. Within the framework of the memorandum signed with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the agreed export target is 16.2 million tons, which, according to Gorbachev, does not threaten the country’s food security.
No significant changes are expected for barley – the harvest is forecast at 5 million tons, exports – 2.3 million tons, which approximately corresponds to the last season.
“This year, China has become more active – it has already started buying barley. This is a very positive signal, the appearance of such a powerful buyer on the market is extremely important. China traditionally imports large volumes,” the UGA president added.
