UNICA: Domestic ethanol sales up in late September
UNICA reported that Brazil’s south-central mills processed 40.85 million tonnes of sugarcane in late September, up from last year. While total ethanol output fell 8.8% to 23.02 billion litres, corn ethanol rose 18.38% to 4.48 billion litres. September ethanol sales reached 3.09 billion litres, slightly down year-on-year.
UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane processing was up during the second half of September. Total ethanol production has continued to trend down from last year, but corn ethanol production is up.
Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 40.85 million metric tons of sugarcane during the second half of September, up when compared to the 38.84 million metric tons processed during the same period of last year.
Total sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 490.93 million metric tons, down 2.99% when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the region produced 2.21 billion liters (583.82 million gallons) of ethanol during the second half of September. Production included 1.36 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 6.33%, and 851.78 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 7.34%. Corn ethanol accounted for 369.61 million liters, or 16.7% of total production during the period, up 10.51% when compared to the same period of 2024.
Total ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 23.02 billion liters, down 8.8%. Production included 14.38 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 10.93%, and 8.64 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 5.02%. Corn ethanol production was at 4.48 billion liters, up 18.38%.
Mills in the south-central region sold 3.09 billion liters of ethanol in September. Sales included 1.21 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 16.45%, and 1.88 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 2.12%.
Domestic sales for September included 1.18 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 15.34%, and 1.75 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 0.45%.
Total ethanol sales since the start of the current harvest season reached 17.51 billion liters, down 2.03%. Sales included 10.98 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, down 5.5%, and 6.53 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 4.4%.
