Thailand exported a record 1.04 million tonnes of palm oil in 2024/25, driven by strong demand, mainly from India, which accounted for over 90% of shipments. September exports reached 164,000 tonnes. The surge followed the lifting of export restrictions and high stock levels, strengthening Thailand’s competitive position against Indonesia and Malaysia.
According to Oil World, Thailand exported a record 1.04 million tonnes of palm oil in 2024/25, the highest amount ever recorded. India, Myanmar, China, and Cambodia remain the main export destinations, with India’s share exceeding 90%.
In September 2025 alone, export volumes totaled 164,000 tonnes, significantly exceeding market expectations and 37% higher than the same month last year. The largest volumes—159,000 tonnes—were shipped to India, while Myanmar and China imported 4,000 and 1,000 tonnes, respectively.
Active export growth became possible after the government lifted restrictions on foreign imports in March. During this time, companies took advantage of high carryover stocks and significant production volumes, which persisted despite a slight decline in domestic prices.
Analysts note that record export volumes indicate a steady recovery in Thailand’s palm industry after several years of fluctuating production. The country has strengthened its position as one of Southeast Asia’s leading exporters, intensifying competition with Indonesia and Malaysia.
