Brazil: Inpasa begins building new R$2.4 billion grain-ethanol plant
Inpasa will invest 2.4 billion reais to build a new grain-based ethanol plant in Rio Verde, Goias—its first unit in the state and ninth overall. The facility will process 2 million tons of corn, sorghum, and other grains annually to produce 1 billion liters of ethanol, 490,000 tons of DDGS, vegetable oil, and biomass-based power, strengthening Brazil’s bioenergy and agro-industry integration.
Inpasa, one of the largest grain ethanol producers in Latin America, announced on Friday that it will invest 2.4 billion reais to build a new plant in Rio Verde, Goias. Construction of the facility has already begun.
This new plant will be Inpasa’s ninth and the first to be located in Goias. It is expected to enhance the integration of agriculture, energy, and industry in the region. The company plans to use corn, sorghum, and other grains as feedstock for the plant.
The new unit will have an annual capacity to process 2 million tons of grains , resulting in the production of 1 billion liters of ethanol , 490,000 tons of DDGS (protein feed for cattle, pigs and poultry), 47,000 tons of vegetable oil and an estimated generation of 345,000 GWh of electricity from biomass.
Inpasa President Eder Odvar Lopes emphasized that the decision to build the plant in Rio Verde was driven by the municipality’s strong logistics infrastructure, the region’s robust agricultural production, and the innovative nature of agribusiness in Goias.
Founded in 2006, Inpasa began its operations in Paraguay and today has seven operating units in Paraguay and Brazil — in the states of Mato Grosso (Sinop and Nova Mutum), Mato Grosso do Sul (Dourados and Sidrolândia), and Maranhão (Balsas), in addition to a plant under construction in Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA). With its arrival in Rio Verde (GO), the company expands its national presence and reaffirms its commitment to sustainable energy production and global food security.
By fully utilizing the grains, Inpasa transforms raw materials into high value-added products that supply the domestic market and reach five continents — including ethanol, DDGS, vegetable oils, bioelectricity, and biogas — strengthening the company’s role as a benchmark in bioeconomy and energy transition.
