Iran purchased more corn than planned in tender
Iran’s state-owned SLAL reportedly bought 180,000 tons of feed corn in an international tender, exceeding the planned 120,000 tons. Three 60,000-ton batches will arrive in Jan–Feb 2026 at around €235 per ton. Sanctions-related payment hurdles persist, while separate tenders for 120,000 tons of barley and soybean meal remain unconfirmed.
According to European traders, the state-owned Iranian feed import company SLAL probably purchased about 180,000 tons of feed corn in an international tender this week instead of the planned 120,000 tons. This is reported by Brecorder.com.
It is noted that the specified volume was purchased in three batches of 60,000 tons with delivery in January-February 2026. The estimated price was about €235/ton (≈$278.5/ton).
The tender provided for the purchase of yellow corn from Brazil, Europe, Russia, Ukraine or other countries in the Black Sea region.
According to traders, payment problems for Iranian companies due to Western sanctions have complicated the country’s participation in recent tenders. Food is not subject to sanctions, but the restrictions have affected Iran’s financial system, creating complex and unstable payment mechanisms.
Other SLAL tenders for the purchase of barley and soybean meal for 120 thousand tons have not yet been confirmed. New tenders may be announced next week.
