Russian companies have expressed their readiness to adapt to challenges in the Venezuelan market, with grain shipment volumes to be determined by mutual agreement, the Russian Embassy reported. Diplomats noted that Russian economic operators can respond flexibly to emerging challenges, but the specific volumes of wheat exports will be coordinated with the Venezuelan side.
The embassy also reminded that due to unfavorable climatic conditions, Venezuela produces virtually no wheat, making imports from Russia a traditional necessity. This maintains stable demand for Russian products and supports trade relations between the two countries.
In early January 2026, the United States carried out the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro and increased pressure on the Venezuelan government, altering the political balance and potentially affecting trade decisions. Prior to this operation, Venezuela was largely within the sphere of influence of China and Russia, which had significant sway over the country’s political and economic processes.
