America: USDA reports corn use for fuel ethanol production at 425 million bushels in February
U.S. corn use for ethanol rose 1% YoY in February 2026 to 425 million bushels, though down monthly. Total corn consumption declined from January, while most co-products output weakened month-on-month, reflecting softer processing activity despite steady annual demand growth in fuel ethanol production.
Corn use for fuel ethanol production in February 2026 was up 1% when compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the USDA’s most recent Grain Crushing and Co-Products Production report.
Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 469 million bushels in February, down 7% when compared to the previous month, but up 1% from February 2025. Corn consumed for fuel alcohol production reached 425 million bushels in February, down 8% when compared to January, but up 1% when compared to the same month of 2025. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 92.2% and 7.8%, respectively.
At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production was at 111,656 tons in February, down from 119,168 tons the previous month, but up from 101,079 tons in February of the previous year. Corn oil production was at 180,042 tons, down from 192,080 tons in January, but up from 173,128 tons in February 2025. Distillers dried grains production fell to 334,592 tons, down from both 346,951 tons the previous month and 344,525 tons in February of the prior year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production fell to 1.63 million tons, down from both 1.78 million tons in January and 1.69 million tons in February 2025. Distillers wet grains production was at 1.19 million tons, down from 1.34 million tons the previous month, but up from 1.11 million tons in February of the previous year. Modified distillers grains production was at 455,493 tons, down from 502,872 tons the previous month, but up from 450,916 tons in February 2025.
At wet mills, corn germ meal production fell to 49,830 tons in February, down from 56,475 tons the previous month and 52,729 tons in February of the previous year. Corn gluten feed production as at 242,146 tons, down from 251,479 tons in January, but up from 229,265 tons in February of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production fell to 90,528 tons, down from both 99,421 tons in January and 98,853 tons in February 2025. Wet corn gluten feed production fell to 170,163 tons, down from 193,748 tons the previous month and 176,276 tons in February of the prior year.
