UNICA: Ethanol production up during first two weeks of new sugarcane harvest season in Brazil
Brazil’s UNICA reported south-central mills processed 19.56 million tonnes of sugarcane in early April, up 19.67% year-on-year. Ethanol production rose 33.32% to 1.23 billion litres, with corn ethanol contributing 411.94 million litres, or 33.49% of total output.
UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced that sugarcane processing and ethanol production were both up during the first half of April. Corn ethanol production continued to grow as well.
A new sugarcane harvest season began in Brazil on April 1. According to UNICA, mills in the south-central region of the country processed 19.56 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of the month, up 19.67% when compared to the same period of last year.
Mills in the region produced 1.23 billion liters (324.93 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of April, up 33.32% when compared to the same period of last year. Production included 879.87 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 18.54%, and 350.2 million liters of anhydrous ethanol. Corn ethanol accounted for 411.94 million liters of production, up 15.06%, and representing 33.49% of total production during the two-week period.
Mills in the region sold 1.28 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of April, including 820.15 million liters of hydrous ethanol and 460.87 million liters of anhydrous ethanol.
Domestic sales reached 1.25 billion liters, including 819.6 million liters of hydrous ethanol and 432.54 million liters of anhydrous ethanol. Exports, at 28.88 million liters, were up 18.03%.
