Haryana: No More Paper Slips as Yamunanagar’s Saraswati Sugar Mills Digitises Sugarcane Indents
Haryana’s Saraswati Sugar Mills in Yamunanagar will introduce a fully digital sugarcane indent system, sending purchase slips to farmers via SMS instead of paper slips. The initiative will benefit over 20,000 growers while reducing paperwork and improving timely communication.
The management of Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM), Yamunanagar has decided to make a major change in its sugarcane indent (sugarcane purchase slip) distribution system ahead of the upcoming crushing season, making the process fully digital for the convenience of farmers.
Under the new system, farmers will no longer have to preserve paper slips for supplying sugarcane. Instead, information about the indent will be sent directly to their registered mobile phone numbers through SMS and they (farmers) will be able to show the SMS received on their mobile phones at the time of bringing their produce to the mill.
The new system is expected to benefit more than 20,000 sugarcane growers associated with the SSM.
Newly appointed Chief Executive of SSM, Kuldeep Kumar, who assumed charge recently, told the media that the SSM administration was making continuous efforts to improve facilities for farmers.
“The digital slip system will not only make the process more convenient, but will also reduce paperwork and ensure that farmers receive timely information regarding their sugarcane supply,” said Kuldeep Kumar.
He said that the mill was also making efforts to ensure the availability of improved varieties of sugarcane seeds for farmers and providing incentives to encourage their cultivation.
“In view of the shortage of agricultural labour; machinery will also be made available during the upcoming season to facilitate harvesting. We are also encouraging farmers to adopt a four-foot line-to-line spacing sugarcane cultivation, so that harvesting through machines becomes easier,” said Kuldeep Kumar.
He said that there was about 62000 acres of sugarcane crop in the command area of the SSM this year. “The crop is in healthy condition, with good production expected during the coming season,” said Kuldeep Singh.
He said that favourable weather conditions, including timely rainfall and the absence of major pest and disease attacks had created good prospects for sugarcane production.
Senior Vice-President (Administration) of the SSM, DP Singh; Vice-President (Cane) Lalit Saini and AGM Ashwani Kumar Arya were also present during the interaction.
