Compliance of Packaging of Sugar in jute packaging material as per provision of jute Packaging Material Act, 1987 and submission of monthly return by sugar mills on packaging of sugar by sugar mills.
This is in reference to this Directorate’s letter of even number dated 24.04.2023 and the subject cited above vide which all the sugar mills were advised for strict compliance of 20% of the total production of Sugar to be mandatorily packed in the jute packaging material.
It is again reiterated that the Central Government has issued orders under the provision of Jute Packaging Material (Compulsory use in Packaging use in packaging commodities) Act, 1987 specifying the percentage of commodities to be packed mandatorily in the jute Packaging material. As per the recent decision, 20% of the total production of Sugar is to be mandatorily packed in the jute packaging material under the provision of the JPM Act, 1987.
Since, the implementation of the provision of the JPM Act, 1987 in respect of Sugar is being reviewed at the highest level of Government, therefore, appropriate action from all the sugar mills shall be taken prior to the commencement of the next sugar season i.e. 2023-24 so as to be ready to comply the use of 20% jute packaging material from the next sugar season.
As you are aware that the relevant fields to add the packaging details have already been added in the P-2 form of NSWS portal; therefore, the correct information w.r.t. packaging details shall be filled by all the sugar mills in their P-2 form.
In view of the above, all sugar mills are therefore, requested to ensure strict compliance of 20% of the total production of sugar to be mandatorily packed in the jute packaging material from the sugar season 2023-24.
