Algeria launches tender to purchase 50 thsd tons of milling wheat
Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC has issued a tender to buy at least 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat for August 2026 shipment, with volumes likely to increase. Traders are expected to source supplies from the new Black Sea crop, highlighting Algeria’s importance as a major global wheat importer.
Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC has announced an international tender to purchase 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat for shipment in August 2026. Bids are due this week, although the actual volume purchased may exceed the stated amount, as is often the case in Algerian wheat tenders.
Under the tender terms, wheat of European and North American origin is scheduled for shipment in August, while supplies from South America, India, and Australia must be loaded one month earlier. This is OAIC’s first major milling wheat tender since early May, when the agency purchased at least 390,000 tonnes for July shipment.
Market participants expect traders to source part of the supplies from the new Black Sea wheat crop, which is now entering the market. Algeria remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers, making its tenders closely watched by exporters from Europe and the Black Sea region.
