Argentina’s wheat planting advances at fastest pace in five years
Argentina has planted 32.4% of its projected 6.5 million hectares of wheat for the 2026/27 season, well ahead of historical averages due to strong soil moisture. Soybean harvest reached 97.2%, while corn harvesting advanced to 40.6%, with production forecasts remaining strong.
Wheat planting continues to move quickly in Argentina and has already covered 32.4% of the area projected for the 2026/27 season, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. The country is expected to plant 6.5 million hectares with the cereal.
“Good water availability is allowing planting to move ahead at a fast pace, surpassing the peak of the curve and standing 12.4 percentage points above the five-year average and 8.8 percentage points ahead of the previous cycle,” the exchange said in a report.
Argentina is Brazil’s largest wheat supplier, accounting for about 70% of the country’s imports.
Soybeans and corn
For soybeans, the exchange said the harvest had reached 97.2% of the planted area, 7.4 percentage points ahead of last season. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange expects Argentina to produce 50.1 million tonnes of the oilseed.
The corn harvest, meanwhile, reached 40.6% of the area projected for the 2025/26 season, also ahead of the average pace. Argentina is expected to produce 64 million tonnes of corn in the current crop year.
