Bangladesh : Govt to procure Boro paddy at Tk 36, rice at Tk 49 per kg
Bangladesh will begin Boro paddy, rice, and wheat procurement from May 3, targeting 1.8 million tonnes. With fixed support prices and adequate reserves, the move aims to stabilise markets, support farmers, and ensure food security through the upcoming procurement season.
The government will begin procurement of Boro paddy, rice and wheat from May 3, targeting 1.8 million tonnes of food grains in the 2026 procurement season.
Under the announced procurement prices, Boro paddy will be purchased at Tk 36 per kilogram, parboiled rice (siddha chal) at Tk 49 per kg, atap rice at Tk 48 per kg, and wheat at Tk 36 per kg.
The decision was announced at a press briefing following a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC), chaired by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Food State Minister Abdul Bari was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the press briefing, Salahuddin said procurement of Boro paddy and wheat will run from May 3 to August 31, while rice procurement will begin on May 15 and continue until August 31.
This season, the government plans to procure 500,000 tonnes of paddy, 1.2 million tonnes of parboiled rice, 100,000 tonnes of atap rice, and 50,000 tonnes of wheat.
The home minister further said the country currently has sufficient food reserves, with government warehouses holding around 1.7 to 1.8 million tonnes of rice.
