Egypt raises vegetable oil imports to 2.3 mln tons

Egypt’s vegetable oil imports rose to 2.3 million tonnes in MY 2025/26, up 0.3 million tonnes, led by palm oil at 1.43 million tonnes, followed by sunflower and soybean oils. Higher consumption is depleting stocks, supporting buying interest, while logistics and price spreads may shift demand toward palm oil.

Egypt increased combined imports of its three key vegetable oils to 2.3 mln tons in the MY 2025/26, up 0.3 mln tons from the previous season, according to Oil World.

Palm oil accounted for the largest share at 1.43 mln tons. Sunflower oil imports reached 565 thsd tons, while soybean oil imports totaled 314 thsd tons.

Sunflower oil shipments from Russia, which remains the key supplier, declined over the past 12 months. However, the drop was offset by sharply higher deliveries from Argentina and Ukraine.

Higher supplies supported stronger vegetable oil consumption in Egypt. At the same time, domestic stocks are gradually being depleted, already boosting buying interest for October–December deliveries.

Further import growth will depend largely on logistics, particularly in the Black Sea region. Meanwhile, current price spreads could encourage some demand to shift from soybean oil to palm oil in the near term.
