Germany expected to see lower wheat harvest in 2026

Germany is expected to produce 22.57 million tonnes of wheat in 2026, down 2.5% from last year, though slightly above April forecasts due to improved weather. Rapeseed output is projected at 4.14 million tonnes, up 4.3% year-on-year despite lower revised estimates.

Germany is projected to record a decline in wheat production in 2026 compared to the previous year. According to the Association of Agricultural Cooperatives (DRV), output is expected to fall by around 2.5% to approximately 22.57 million tonnes, reports Reuters.

Despite the overall downturn, the outlook has slightly improved compared to April estimates, which placed the harvest at 22.38 million tonnes. The revision reflects more favorable weather conditions in recent weeks, which have supported crop development.

Rapeseed production is forecast at around 4.14 million tonnes. While this is slightly below the previous estimate, it still represents a year-on-year increase of about 4.3%.

Germany remains one of the key agricultural producers in the European Union, ranking as the bloc’s second-largest wheat producer and a major rapeseed supplier, meaning fluctuations in output can influence broader EU grain market dynamics.
