Indonesia : Bulog records all-time high rice stocks of 5.36 million tons
Bulog is managing a record 5.36 million tonnes of rice stocks with storage capacity expanded to 6.2 million tonnes. The agency has procured 2.8 million tonnes toward its 2026 target, supporting farmers, stabilising prices and strengthening Indonesia’s long-term food security strategy.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – State-owned logistics company Bulog is currently managing a record-high rice stock of 5.36 million tons, supported by a nationwide storage capacity that has expanded to 6.2 million tons.
Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said on Monday that storage capacity will continue to increase in line with rising national rice production to optimize stock management and strengthen food stabilization efforts.
On the procurement side, Bulog has absorbed around 2.8 million tons of rice from its 2026 target of 4 million tons.
Ramdhani stated that the achievement reflects Bulog’s active role in supporting domestic farmers while reinforcing Indonesia’s national food reserves.
“By absorbing domestic production, we are not only securing our rice supply but also helping maintain price stability for both producers and consumers,” he said.
He explained that Bulog operates an extensive infrastructure network across Indonesia, including warehouses, logistics channels, and paddy and rice processing facilities.
According to him, achieving long-term food self-sufficiency requires cross-sector collaboration, including an active contribution from universities as hubs for knowledge, research, innovation, and new ideas.
Ramdhani underscored that strengthening food self-sufficiency goes beyond looking at production metrics alone. It also depends on the nation’s capacity to absorb farmers’ harvests, maintain food reserves, upgrade post-harvest infrastructure, and ensure that food remains available and affordable.
The expansion is part of a long-term strategy to increase production, improve post-harvest management quality, and support sustainable food self-sufficiency. Ramdhani added that Bulog is also strengthening its strategic role through education and dialogue with younger generations, including university students.
He stressed that achieving long-term food self-sufficiency requires collaboration across sectors, including active contributions from universities as centers of research, innovation, and new ideas.
According to Ramdhani, strengthening food self-sufficiency is not solely about boosting production, but also about the ability to absorb farmers’ harvests, maintain food reserves, improve post-harvest infrastructure, and ensure food remains affordable and widely available.
