Jordan and Chinese firm HDsolar partner to produce green hydrogen
Jordan signed an MoU with China’s HDsolar for feasibility studies on a green hydrogen project to produce 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually. The initiative aligns with Jordan’s goal to become a global hydrogen hub, with $28 billion in green hydrogen investments expected by 2030.
Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr Saleh Kharabsheh, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday with Zhu Xiufeng, regional director of the Chinese company Hangzhou Huading New Energy Co. Ltd. (HDsolar). The agreement paves the way for initial feasibility studies to establish a green hydrogen project aimed at producing 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, reports FCW.
Minister Kharabsheh explained that the memorandum sets a framework for collaboration, allowing HDsolar to conduct preliminary studies to evaluate the project’s potential. Based on the results, the ministry plans to work with the company to finalize an investment agreement for the project.
“This project aligns with our vision to position Jordan as a regional and global hub for hydrogen production and export,” Kharabsheh said, emphasizing the growing importance of green hydrogen in achieving energy sustainability.
HDsolar CEO Ma Siji highlighted the significance of the agreement, describing it as a major step forward for Jordan and a unique project globally. He added that it would boost investment opportunities and position Jordan as a leader in green hydrogen development.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, engineers involved in the green hydrogen initiative, and company representatives.
Hangzhou Huading New Energy Co. Ltd. specializes in solar power projects and has contributed to over 1,000 photovoltaic installations worldwide.
This MoU is the 14th in a series of agreements between Jordan and other parties regarding an expansion of green hydrogen and ammonia production. This deal, according to the ministry, is part of efforts by the Ministry of Energy to attract investments in renewable energy. Eight investors submitted feasibility studies for green hydrogen projects, and three are near completion. According to the ministry, the investment in green hydrogen initiatives being considered will amount to $28 billion by 2030.
