Maharashtra: 25 sugar mills yet to clear FRP worth Rs 175 crore to farmers
Maharashtra’s 25 sugar mills still owe ₹175 crore in FRP payments for 2025-26, according to the Sugar Commissionerate. Of 210 mills, 185 have cleared 100% of dues. Mills crushed 1,045.63 lakh tonnes of cane, while actual FRP payments reached 99.57% ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Kolhapur: As new sugarcane crushing season is about to start and mills in the state are gearing up for the same, as many as 25 sugar mills in the state are yet to clear Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) dues worth Rs 175 crore for the 2025-26 crushing season, according to the Sugar Commissionerate’s report released on October 1, 2026.
According to the report 185 sugar mills out of the total 210 mills that participated in the crushing season have cleared 100% FRP.
The report said 210 sugar mills in the state crushed 1,045.63 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the season. Against the total gross FRP liability of Rs 40,446 crore, including harvesting and transportation (H&T) charges, mills have made payments of Rs 41,730 crore.
However, after excluding the H&T component and considering only the actual FRP payable to farmers, Rs 40,271 crore has been paid, while Rs 175 crore remains outstanding.
This takes the actual FRP payment level in the state to 99.57%. As many as 185 sugar mills have cleared 100% of their FRP payments to sugarcane growers.
Another 21 mills have paid between 80% and 99.99% of the FRP due. Farmers associated with these mills are awaiting payment of the remaining amount. Three sugar mills have paid between 60% and 80% while one mill has paid FRP lower than 59% .
The data comes as Maharashtra’s sugar sector prepares for the upcoming 2026-27 crushing season, with the clearance of pending FRP payments remaining an important issue for cane growers.
