Monsoon Session: Government details five-year ethanol supply by distilleries; capacity boost measures continue

During the ongoing Monsoon Session in the Parliament, a question was asked about the quantity of ethanol produced in the country during the last five years, company-wise and year-wise, indicating Public Sector and Private Sector companies separately;

MoS, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi said that the matter regarding the quantity of ethanol produced in the country pertains to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD).

The quantity of ethanol produced by distilleries in the country and supplied to Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) during last five years is as under:

Government have taken several steps to augment domestic ethanol production capacity utilizing both sugarcane and grain-based feedstock, which inter-alia, includes introduction of various Ethanol Interest Subvention Schemes (EISS) since 2018 to 2022 (in 2021 Ethanol production from grain was also included under these schemes) to encourage Sugar Mills/Distilleries to enhance Ethanol distillation capacities by setting up of new distilleries or expansion of existing distilleries throughout the country, expansion of feedstock for ethanol production, introduction of administered price mechanism for ethanol production under the EBP Programme for stable and remunerative ethanol prices, Long-Term Offtake Agreements (LTOAs) between OMCs and Dedicated Ethanol Plants etc.
