Nigeria moves forward to advance biofuels bill


In Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria reported that the House of Representatives has passed through second reading, a bill for the provision of a policy framework for the development of biofuels energy industry in Nigeria, through the establishment of Biofuels Energy Regulatory Commission and Biofuels Research Agency.
The bill seeks to establish a fuel ethanol industry utilizing agricultural products with the aim of improving the quality of automotive fossil-based fuels in Nigeria to promote job creation, rural and agricultural development and technology acquisition and transfer, according to the report.
It also intends to provide a framework to attract foreign investment in the biofuels industry, the report adds.
The bill was passed for second reading and referred to the House Committee on Science and Research Institutes.
