Pinnacle Marine signs research agreement to evaluate B100 in Singapore harbor craft

Pinnacle Marine (Singapore) has partnered with NTU’s Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre, Weichai Singapore, and the China Classification Society Singapore to conduct a 1,000-hour test of B100 biodiesel in a newly built harbor craft. The research aims to evaluate engine performance, emissions, and establish best practices for handling B100. This initiative supports Singapore’s efforts toward net-zero emissions in maritime operations.

Shipbuilder Pinnacle Marine (Singapore) has entered into a Research Collaboration Agreement with the NTU Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD), Weichai Singapore Pte Ltd, and the China Classification Society Singapore.

This collaboration is centered on conducting a 1,000-hour continuous run of pure FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) biodiesel, also referred to as B100, in a newly constructed 16-meter aluminum hulled harbor craft within the confines of Singapore Port.

Pinnacle Marine explained that the research aims to assess engine performance and emissions data related to the extended use of B100, along with establishing guidelines for its storage, handling, and bunkering.

“This research will be a pioneering effort in Singapore, and we are confident it will provide significant advantages to the harbor craft community and support our path toward achieving net-zero emissions,” the company stated in a social media announcement.
