The Poultry Industry Alliance (PI Alliance), formed to unite over 30 associations from various regions and sectors of the fragmented poultry industry, has been established to advocate for increased poultry consumption and represent the industry’s interests in dealings with state and central governments.
During the recent three-day Poultry Expo in Hyderabad, leaders from these associations highlighted the industry’s need for better access to working capital, as well as a consistent supply of maize and soya, essential components of poultry feed.
The poultry industry in India consumes over 50% of the country’s maize and soya production, underscoring its vital role in the agricultural economy.
Uday Singh Bayas, President of the Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) highlighted that the Poultry Expo, which attracted over 40,000 visitors from India and abroad, showcased the latest equipment, machinery, and services for poultry industry stakeholders. Describing it as the largest event in South-East Asia, he noted that the 16th edition of the expo was the biggest yet.
“We are going to allocate about 50 per cent of the profits from the expo to the new alliance. The alliance will comprise all State-level poultry associations. It will be a unified voice of the industry.,” Bayas added, reported The Hindu Business Line.
He stated that the fluctuating prices of maize and soya, vital components of poultry feed, present a major challenge to the industry’s profitability. The alliance intends to collaborate with the government to secure stable supply and pricing for these critical ingredients.
