Ukraine emerges as EU’s third-largest sugar supplier in 2025/26 marketing year

Ukraine became the EU’s third-largest sugar supplier during the first eight months of 2025/26, accounting for 11% of imports. The EU imported 628,000 tonnes of sugar, led by South Africa (16%) and Mauritius (12%), excluding 500,000 tonnes imported under the IPR scheme.

Ukraine became the European Union’s third-largest sugar supplier during the first eight months of the 2025/26 marketing year, according to European Commission data cited by the Ukrsugar association.

The data showed that Ukrainian sugar contributed 11 per cent of the European Union’s total sugar imports during the period, Latifundist reported.

South Africa remained the largest sugar supplier to the EU, accounting for 16 per cent of total imports, followed by Mauritius with a 12 per cent share.

Between October 2025 and May 2026, the European Union imported a total of 628,000 tonnes of sugar.

However, the figures do not include sugar imported under the Inward Processing Relief (IPR) scheme. According to the European Commission, imports under this mechanism were estimated at around 500,000 tonnes during the same period.
