UP sugarcane dept allots over 61k quintals of cane seeds for winter sowing
The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Department has distributed 61,505 quintals of high-quality breeder sugarcane seeds and 130 lakh buds of disease-resistant cane to 45 districts for winter planting. Three varieties—CoL 16202, CoL 15466, and CoS 17231—were produced by the UP Sugarcane Research Council, private farms, and progressive farmers. This initiative aims to support nurseries across the state, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality, disease-resistant cane seeds for future planting cycles, with Lucknow receiving the most significant allocation at 12,239 quintals.
Pilibhit: The sugarcane department in Uttar Pradesh has allotted 61,505 quintals of high-quality breeder sugarcane seeds and nearly 130 lakh buds of disease-resistant cane seeds to 45 cane-growing districts across the state, officials said on Friday.UP cane commissioner, Prabh N Singh, said, “The allotted cane seeds include three breeder varieties – CoL 16202, CoL 15466, and CoS 17231 – and the seed buds include 5 lakh of CoL 15466, 10 lakh of CoL 16202, and 114.6 lakh of CoS 17231 variety.
The Lucknow Cane Division received the highest quantity of seeds at 12,239 quintals, while the Ayodhya Cane Region received the lowest, totaling 1,990 quintals, based on the area allocated for winter sowing. The breeder seeds were produced by research centres governed by the UP Sugarcane Research Council in Shahjahanpur district, the farms of private and cooperative sugar mills in the state, and the progressive sugarcane farmers.”This three-tier seed production system will pave the way for setting up nurseries of the breeder sugarcane seed on the lands of farmers across the state. It aims to ensure the availability of quality and disease-resistant seed in abundance for future cycles of sowing,” said Singh.
